Keraleeya Ayurveda Samajam is a well known ayurveda house, stands for the genuine traditional approach with special emphasis to the Keraleeya systems of ayurvedic therapies. Ayurveda means science of life. Keraleeya Ayurveda Samajam Hospital and Nursing Home Shoranur in Palakkad District, the oldest ayurveda healing center in the country and it is a single charitable organization in preserving and promoting the principles of the science of life (Ayurveda). Started in 1902 at Calicut by the Zamorin of Calicut and Appan Thampuran of Cochin, it was subsequently established in Shoranur near the Cochin Bridge on the banks of the river Nila (Bharathappuzha). It is a charitable society registered under Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 running on charitable lines with no loss no profit motto.


Today Samajam is known as the best dependable health sanatorium in India. Quite a number of patients cutting across all the boarders, various walks of life come and seek solace here.

Efficacy of Ayurvedic medicines and treatment have been subjected to study through research activities especially in three fields viz. Diabetes, Sub fertility and degenerative disorders.

A well equipped pharmacy which produces 500 varieties of ayurvedic medicines strictly on traditional ayurvedic methods is functioning in the Samajam premises. Samajam Hospital can accommodate 105 inpatients at a time. Executive Rooms (A/c and Non A/c), independent cottages and general wards are available.

Brahmashree Poomulli Neelakandan Nmaboodiripad popularly known as "Aaram Thampuran" was long associated with Keraleeya Ayurveda Samajam as one of the Directors and he was the President of the Samajam till his demise in 1997. He was an intellectual wizard in Ayurveda, Philosophy & Sanskrit and was an expert in all kind of arts and music and treatment of elephants. He had a vision to establish a study center for Ayurveda to impart the ancient Ayurvedic techniques of India to the global level.

This Trust registered under the Societies Registration Act XX1 of 1860 under especially and its main objectives are providing medical education especially in Ayurveda especially

and its main objectives are providing medical education especially in Ayurveda and related subjects and establishing and conducting educational institutions for this purpose. Bharatheeya Sasthra Vidya Peetam wanted to unliven this tradition and hence applied to the Kerala Government for permission to start a self-financing Ayurveda college. Permission was granted by the Kerala Government and the Calicut University. This Ayurveda College has been recognized by the Central Council of Indian Medicines, Government of India and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Department of Ayush and has granted permission to conduct academic activities from 2007-2008.
